Data Protection

    We use the information you provide primarily for the provision of legal services to you and for related purposes including: updating and enhancing client records, analysis to help us manage our practice, statutory returns and legal and regulatory compliance.
    Our use of that information is subject to your instructions, the Data Protection Act 2018 and our duty of confidentiality. Please note that our work for you may require us to give information to the third parties such as expert witnesses and other professional advisors. You have right of access under data protection legislation to the personal data that we hold about you. 

We may from time to time send you information which we think might be of interest to you. If you do not wish to receive that information, please notify our office in writing.

1.2 This policy sets out the basis on which your personal information is collected by us, will be processed by us, and also sets out your rights in relation to that information.

2.2 We may also collect data that is referred to as “special category” in the light of providing legal services to you. This could include Information relating to your racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, health, criminal convictions, sex life or sexual orientation, or certain types of genetic or biometric data is known as ‘special category’ data. This is particularly so if we prepare your Will, advise you in relation to divorce proceedings, bring an employment or discrimination claim on your behalf, buy or sell a company with large number of employees, or bring certain types of court claims on your behalf.

3. How we use this information

3.1 We might use information held about you in the following ways: 
(a) In the provision of our services to you or to others;(b) to notify you about changes to our services;(c) to promote our services, including sending legal updates, publications and details of events, summary of your case where such information will be anonymised on our website if not already in the public domain;(d) to provide and improve our website/online services, including auditing and monitoring its use;(e) to fulfil our legal, regulatory and risk management obligations, including establishing, exercising or defending legal claims; or(f) for the purposes of recruitment.

4. How long we keep your information

4.1 We will keep personal data only for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purposes for which we collected it, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, accounting or reporting requirements. Normally, our retention period for personal data collected for this purpose is a minimum of 6 years after the end of the period that we are providing legal services.

5. Where we store your data

5.1 All information you provide to us is stored in our offices or in off-site secure storage or on our secure servers.

5.2 Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee the security

5.3 If your data transmitted to our website; any transmission is at your own risk. Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorised access.

6. Who we share your personal data with

6.1 From time to time, we may have to pass on your personal data to other people or organisations to provide our legal services to you. These include:
(a) Other law firms, barristers, expert witnesses and arbitrators/mediators

(d) Suppliers who support our business including IT and communication suppliers, outsourced business support, dictation and transcription services, marketing, accounting and advertising agencies
(e) Screening service providers who assist us in complying with legal obligations in relation to the prevention or protection of crime, anti-money laundering, sanctions screening and other required checks

6.2 We only allow our service providers to handle your personal data if we are satisfied, they take appropriate measures to protect your personal data. We also impose contractual obligations on service providers to ensure they can only use your personal data to provide services to us and to you.

6.3 We may disclose and exchange information with law enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies to comply with our legal and regulatory obligations.

6.4 We may also need to share some personal data with other parties, such as potential buyers of some or all of our business or during a re-structuring. Usually, information will be anonymised but this may not always be possible. The recipient of the information will be bound by confidentiality obligations.
